What is the Canadian Experience Class Program?
The Canadian Experience Class is for skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.
Skilled work experience means work experienced gained in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job categories. Your work experience can be in 1 or more of these categories.
To be eligible, you must have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before you apply.
Who is qualified for the Canadian Experience Class?
Following are some elements that determine candidacy for the CEC:
Worked Experience: Anyone with one year of paid skilled work experience in Canada within the three years before an application is eligible for the CEC. The Canadian government defines skilled employment as experience under TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 job categories.
30 hours a week, or 1560 working hours over a minimum of 12 months, which is regarded as full-time job experience.
equal amount in part-time work: for example 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
You can work as many part-time jobs as you need to meet this requirement.
full-time work at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
This experience must be legal and accompanied by a working visa.
Self-employment and employment while enrolled in full-time education, co-ops, and internships taken as a requirement for a degree do not qualify as legal forms of employment for CEC.
Language Skill:
- Canadian Language Benchmark 7 for TEER 0 or TEER 1 jobs or
- Canadian Language Benchmark 5 for TEER 2 or TEER 3 jobs
Education: The educational requirement is not needed, but it does raise your CRS score.
Other Factors: Your eligibility under the CEC depends on your ability to enter Canada. You can apply for CEC through Express Entry if you reside or work in Quebec, if you provide evidence that you intend to leave Quebec after your application is accepted.
