Visit VISA

Visit VISA Application

A visitor visa is required for anyone entering Canada who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise visa-exempt. Even if their permanent resident card has expired, Canadian permanent residents are not eligible to apply for a visitor visa. Instead, they must apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD).

Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, are also barred from obtaining a visitor visa. They must have a current Canadian passport. A business visitor visa may be required if you are transiting through or visiting Canada for business purposes rather than as a temporary foreign worker.

Visa-Exempt Countries

Besides Canadian citizens and permanent residents, only visa-exempt individuals can enter Canada without a visitor visa. Some nations with which Canada has agreements do not need their residents to obtain a visa to visit Canada for up to six months. To enter Canada via flight, foreign nationals from nations without visa requirements must have a current electronic travel authorization (eTA).

They only need a valid passport issued by a visa-exempt government if they see by land or sea. Citizens of the United States are the only exception. The Canada-US border is the world’s longest undefended land border, and thousands of Canadian and American citizens cross it daily. US citizens can travel to Canada with a valid US passport and only need a visitor visa or eTA if they stay for up to six months.

Green Card holders are exempt from visa requirements regardless of their country of citizenship.

How To Apply

Online, postal mail or in-person submissions at a Visa Application Center are all options for applicants who need a guest visa to enter Canada (VAC). Each family member, including any dependent children, must complete an application if you are traveling. However, you are welcome to submit all of the applications at once. Applicants might need to submit biometric data with their application, depending on the nation of their citizenship.

The applicant must provide their fingerprints and a photo to a biometric collecting service site if biometrics are necessary. When requested, biometrics can be taken before or after applying for a visitor visa if done in person at a Visa Application Center (VAC).
